It has been noted in the document that Avigdor Lieberman was appointed Minister of Defense, Sofa Landwehr — Minister of Immigrant Absorption.
As a friend of Azerbaijan, Sofa Landwehr has repeatedly participated in the events dedicated to significant events in the history and culture of Azerbaijan, which were organized by the association «AzIs». She was a delegate to the congress of the International Association Israel-Azerbaijan «AzIs». And also, in the last elections to the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, Landwehr was the observer from Israeli delegation and confirmed the transparency and democratic elections without any violations.
Admiral.Az in turn congratulated the friend of Azerbaijan and gathered some answers.
— What innovations can be expected in Israel’s immigration policy?
— Firstly, we are not immigrants, we are repatriates. We are coming back home, returning to our homeland. We have one of the basic laws of Israel — the Law of Return (Hebrew חוק השבות -. «Hoc ha Shvut»), proclaiming the right of every Jew to immigrate to Israel. The law defines who is eligible for repatriation. That is why any changes should not be expected in this regard.
— Is it expected to cooperate in this field with Azerbaijan? After all, many Jews live in our country for decades.
— We have always been open to share knowledge, skills. And I, as the Minister will continue to share experiences and receive new knowledge from other countries in this field. In any case, our country today consist of 8.5 million people. Of these, 3.5 million were not born here, they came from all corners of the world, because they were Jews who had returned to their houses. We will continue to work to expand the scope of repatriation, so that people would be able to come. And to those projects which are in the Ministry of Absorption, and based on the success of immigrants will be in the process. We are ready to share experiences, to learn. Our ministry has enormous experience in this area. We will be happy to share it with others.
— You have repeatedly visited Azerbaijan. Do you have any plans in the sphere of development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Israel?
— Yes, I love your country. I and leader of «Israel is Our Home» has repeatedly been to Azerbaijan with members of our party. We talked about our relationship, they will not change. First of all, it is a purely human relations, human bridges. I will not deal specifically with relations concerning Azerbaijan, but i will welcome and support your country.
— What are your memories about Azerbaijan?
— Firstly, you have a very beautiful and developed country. You have excellent leadership, great human potential. There are warm, smart, nice people in Azerbaijan. I wish you prosperity. I just love Azerbaijan. Your country is warm, clean and bright.
-Can we expect the introduction of a visa-free regime between our countries?
— It’s not a simple question. Our Party held visa-free regime with Russia, Ukraine, Belarus,Moldova. We believe that our borders must be opened. Our party will do everything in order to open the borders and to allow those who are going to come to our country. To the citizens of Azerbaijan and Israel could visit each other freely, and it would be easier for both parties.
